Psychology Organizations
Important Psychological Organizations The American Psychological Association (APA) is an important organization to any psychologist. APA Graduate Students is an organization of psychology graduate students. GRASP is a University of Tulsa psychology graduate student organization focusing on the needs and interests of TU psychology graduate students. GRASP is run by representatives of each of the four psychology graduate programs (i.e., I/O and Clinical Master's and Ph.D. students). One avenue for developing core skills is the Center for Community Research and Development (CCRD). CCRD provides a link between the University of Tulsa and our local and greater community. CCRD aims to improve the effectiveness of community organizations by drawing upon the research skills and technical expertise of faculty and students in a wide variety of disciplines. By linking these groups, CCRD also hopes to address complex social issues. Ethnic Minorities in Psychology (EMIP) is a University of Tulsa based organization that seeks to promote the academic and professional development of ethnic minority students graduate and undergraduate from all branches of psychology.

Professional Clinical Organizations National Organizations The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) the world’s premier trauma organization dedicated to trauma treatment, education, research and prevention. Through this organization, professionals share information about the effects of trauma, seeking to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences. The Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) is a professional, interdisciplinary organization that is concerned with the applications of behavioral and cognitive sciences to understand human behavior, developing interventions to enhance the human condition, and the appropriate utilization of these interventions. The International Neuropsychological Society (INS) is a multi-disciplinary non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing communication among the scientific disciplines which contribute to the understanding of brain-behavior relationships.
Professional
I/O Organizations National Organizations The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) is the primary organization for I/O students, faculty, and practitioners of I/O Psychology. Students and faculty routinely submit research and travel to the annual SIOP conference. If you would like to talk to University of Tulsa students or faculty during the conference, let us know. The Academy of Management is another important organization for I/O students, faculty and practitioners. Academy of Management has a more business orientation and is useful for learning more about the inter-relationship between I/O psychology and business topics such as human resources, organizational behavior, and strategic planning. The Society for Human Resource Management and the Southwestern Psychological Association offer other opportunities for networking and/or presenting research.
Local Organizations The mission of ASTD-Tulsa is to inspire and cultivate creative approaches to human performance improvement. They provide professional development and the opportunity to share resources in a supportive learning environment. The chapter has monthly meetings near TU with interesting programs frequently involving HR and training directors from local businesses.
