Emily Bartley received an American Pain Society Young Investigator Travel Award -
Project:  Assessing emotional

processing in persons with fibromyalgia:  Emotional picture-viewing and the acoustic startle reflex. 

Mary Chandler  American Pain Society Young Investigatory Travel Award - Project:  Personality correlates of pain and 
nociceptive sensitivity:  The Control subscale of the constraint trait.


Jacob Finn received a Student Travel Award from the Society for Personality Assessment, March 2008.

Jacob Finn came in second place at the University of Tulsa, 11th Annual Student Research Colloquium, April 2008.

Amy Williams received a Tursky Poster Award for her project: Emotional control of nociceptive reactions (ECON): Affective valence and arousal have independent effects on blink responses to noxious stimulation.

Jennifer Russell  American Pain Society Young Investigatory Travel Award - Project:  Pain catastrophizing

assessed before and after experimental pain testing:  Temporal stability and relations with pain and nociception.


Patty Byrd
was awarded a research grant from the Science to Service Student Award Program through the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service for her Dissertation.

DEPARTMENT & FACULTY NEWS.

Allan Harkness, Associate Professor Psychology was honored at commencement for his outstanding teaching.  Recipients are nominated by graduating seniors.  Twenty current faculty members of the Henry Kendall College of Arts and Sciences has won this University teaching award.

Joanne Davis, Associate Professor of Psychology and Jamie Rhudy, Assistant Professor of Psychology presented a work shop on Treatment for chronic nightmares in adults with PTSD at the Fifth Annual Conference on Preventing, Assessing & Treating Child,  Adolescent, and Adult Trauma.  Honolulu, Hawaii    (April, 2008). 

Michael Basso, McFarlin Associate Professor of Psychology recently
passed the diplomate examination in neuropsychology. 
He is one of five diplomates in the state and 417 in the US.  He also passed the American Board of Professional Psychology diplomate examination in clinical
neuropsychology.

 

Elana Newman, McFarlin Associate Professor of Psychology and Clinical Director of Psychology.  was visiting Faculty at the
Poynter Institute for a journalist seminar  "Covering the War at Home".   She reviewed the science of trauma and story ideas
about mental health, PTSD, family and children.  Dr. Newman was also nominated
for the Women's and Gender Studies Mentor
Award for Spring 2008.

Pawel Lewicki, Professor of Psychology was invited by Jocobs University in Bremen to deliver a talk  at their monthly interdisciplinary Colloquium Series, on our research on encoding styles on February 5, 2008.
