Research Interests

My research interests span a fairly broad range within the trauma field. I have been involved in a diverse array of research activities that fall into three basic categories: assessment, treatment, and prevention. From prevention efforts to treatment outcome, the underlying purpose of my research endeavors is to identify cognitive, emotional, and behavioral areas of difficulty for individuals with experiences of interpersonal victimization and other forms of trauma; to target interventions aimed at modifying those areas of difficulty; and to evaluate such interventions. I am also interested in the identification and eradication of pseudoscience practices in trauma studies. My research lab is currently working on the following projects:

  • Randomized clinical trial of a cognitive behavioral treatment for chronic nightmares in trauma-exposed persons

  • Examination of motivation for high risk behavior in victims and nonvictims of trauma

  • Determination of current status of social rules for rape prevention in male
    and female college students

  • Prevalence and Characteristics of nightmares in trauma-exposed children
    - Treating chronic nightmares in trauma-exposed children
    - Trauma history and violent behavior in female inmates
