  Research Interests

My research interests cover three broad areas:  workplace romance, gender bias in organizations, and job attitudes and climate.

Workplace Romance. My research in this area focuses on situational factors related to incidents of romance at work.  For example, my graduate students and I are investigating the interplay between job attitudes, organizational climate, and workplace romance.

Gender Bias in Organizations. A second area of research that I pursue concerns gender stereotypes and bias. I have published research examining the conceptual and empirical differences among various types of sexism (e.g., Conn et al., 1999). My recent work in this area examines the relationships between sexist attitudes and evaluations of female job applicants.

Job Attitudes/Organizational Climate. With respect to organizational climate, I am focused on understanding the antecedents of customer service climate, as well as its consequences.  Specific areas of inquiry include: 1) the relationship between manager personality and service climate (Salvaggio et al., In press) and 2) customer service in government agencies.

Although these areas represent my main research domains, I have investigated (and tend to be interested in) a variety of topics related to understanding behavior in and of organizations.
